Terms of Service

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). If you are under 18, you must have your parent's or legal guardian's permission. By using the Services, you represent that you meet these requirements. Some features carry a higher age requirement, which is stated in the section covering that feature.

• You may create an account with accurate, current information.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms.

You may use BetterBudgets to:

• Create and manage personal budgets, financial plans, and savings goals.
• Track income and expenses you manually enter into the app.
• Use the planning tools and financial calculators.
• Access educational content provided by BetterBudgets.
• Sync your data securely across your personal devices.

Not financial advice. BetterBudgets is a personal finance planning tool. Nothing in the app constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and we are not a licensed financial advisor. Projections and calculator outputs are estimates based on the figures you enter. Consult a qualified professional for advice specific to your situation.

You agree not to (and not to help anyone else to):

• Use the Services for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Services, our systems, our databases, or our APIs.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code from the app, or circumvent any technical measure we use to provide the Services.
• Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access or collect data from the Services.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Services or our infrastructure.
• Impersonate another person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
• Transmit any harmful, fraudulent, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content through the Services.
• Abuse the Referral Program — including self-referrals, creating accounts you control in order to claim rewards, or sending unsolicited bulk messages to distribute your code.

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately for any of these.

• Some features require a paid Thrive subscription. Free features remain available without a subscription, and are not time-limited.
• Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, or our web checkout, depending on where you subscribed. Pricing differs between them. We never receive or store your payment card details.
• A lifetime purchase, where offered, is a one-time payment that does not renew.
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Cancel where you subscribed — your store's subscription settings for an in-app purchase, or your account page for a web subscription.
• All fees are non-refundable except as required by law, or under the refund policy of the store or payment processor you purchased through. Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by the store, not by us.
• We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice. Continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance.

You retain ownership of all budget data and content you enter into BetterBudgets. By using the Services, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and process that content solely to provide the Services to you. We do not use your budget data for advertising, we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes, and we do not sell it. You may export or delete it at any time.

All rights, title, and interest in BetterBudgets — including the code, designs, logos, trademarks, and software — belong to BetterBudgets LLC. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works, or use our trademarks, logos, or content, without our written permission.

• Not financial advice. The Services provide general planning tools and educational content only. Nothing in them is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and your use of the Services does not create an advisory or fiduciary relationship with us. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions.
• The Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or the accuracy of any projection, calculation, or plan the app produces.
• We are not responsible for the accuracy of information you enter, or for financial decisions you make based on app outputs.
• To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or $100, whichever is greater).
• We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time for any reason, including violations of these Terms, with or without notice. You may delete your account at any time in the app or by requesting deletion. Upon termination, your right to use the Services ceases immediately, and any unclaimed rewards or credits are forfeited. Sections covering intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution survive termination.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the Services will be resolved exclusively through binding arbitration in Virginia under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You waive the right to a jury trial and the right to participate in a class action. If arbitration is found unenforceable, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Virginia. Nothing in this section limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your own country.

We offer a Referral Program that lets you invite new users with a personal code. Participation is optional, and we may modify, suspend, or end the program at any time.

Eligibility. You must have an active BetterBudgets account in good standing. No self-referrals, no accounts you control, and a code cannot be used on your own account. Each person may use one code, once.

Rewards. The person you refer receives a discount on Thrive: 30% off their first year. You receive one free month of Thrive for each qualifying referral. Rewards accumulate, and there is no cap on how many people you refer. The discount applies to web subscriptions only — the app stores cannot accept a code. The referral discount does not apply to lifetime purchases.

When a referral qualifies. A referral qualifies when the person you referred completes a paid Thrive subscription on the web using your code, without fraud. Rewards are issued after the purchase converts, not when a code is entered, and may be held until any refund window has passed. If a referred subscription is refunded or reversed, we may reverse the reward it earned.

Limits. Rewards are account credit toward Thrive. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged, and are forfeited if the account is closed. If you hold a lifetime purchase there is no subscription month to extend, so no reward accrues to you — the person you refer still receives their discount. We may withhold rewards and end your participation where we find abuse. Disputes about a referral must be raised with us within 30 days.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notice at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a change is required immediately by law. Changes to the Referral Program, including reward amounts and eligibility, are treated as material changes. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
