What is Canvas?
Canvas is BetterBudgets' freehand financial planning workspace. It's designed for when you need to think on paper — sketch out a debt payoff idea, map out a savings plan, or brainstorm a major financial decision — without the structure of forms and fields.
The Idea Behind Canvas
Sometimes financial planning isn't about entering numbers into a calculator. It's about working through ideas. Canvas gives you a blank space to do that — and because it lives inside BetterBudgets, everything stays connected to your financial life.
What You Can Do
- ›Draw and sketch — freehand drawing with your Apple Pencil or finger
- ›Write notes — annotate your sketches with handwritten or typed text
- ›Insert shapes and lines — build simple diagrams and timelines
- ›Organize by page — create multiple Canvas pages for different ideas
- ›Access anywhere — Canvas syncs across your devices (iPad, iPhone, web)
Who It's For
Canvas is built primarily for iPad users with an Apple Pencil, where it feels the most natural. That said, it works on any device — you can use your finger on iPhone or a mouse/trackpad on the web.
Use Cases
- ›Sketching out a debt payoff sequence
- ›Mapping a savings timeline for a big goal
- ›Working through a budget idea before entering it into the Builder
- ›Taking handwritten notes during a financial conversation
